chili oil

Another sauce I’ve picked up making recently. This one is super easy to make, but you definitely want to use a thermometer for the oil since the spices can burn pretty easily. I’d love to play with this one more too so let me know what flavors it needs more or less of.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package chili oil spice mix

  • 1 cup neutral oil

Instructions:

  1. Add spice mix to a ceramic bowl.

  2. Heat oil in a small pot or pan until temperature reaches 370ºF and no more than 400ºF.

  3. Carefully pour oil over spice mix, mixing gently with a metal spoon to ensure even cooking.

  4. Cool slightly and remove star anise and bay leaves.

  5. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 6 months.
